Experience and Qualifications
My name is Munpreet Kaur, I am a qualified Drama and Movement Therapist (Sesame), registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)*. I have experience both as a clinical therapist and a clinical supervisor. I have also completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work.
Therefore I developed a person centered approach. As a result, each client is met where they are. Their needs are put at the forefront, and they set the pace of the intervention.
*If searching the HCPC register, please look under Arts Therapist using the surname Flora.
I was drawn to a career in counselling because I am passionate about helping those in need. It showed me the struggle that mental health can be. Like many, I witnessed the impact it has on friends and family.
Mental health can go up and down the same as physical health. Therefore, from early on I wanted everyone to understand that it is ok to talk about it.
As soon as I got the opportunity, I trained as a therapist. The journey involved going to therapy myself. During this time I had to overcome my ‘demons’. As a result, I learnt a great deal about myself. Consequently, I can ensure that my past will not get in the way of your process. After all, the client should be the focus of the session.
I met a number of amazing colleagues and friends during this experience. They provided me with a great support network and strength to do this job on a daily basis. They taught me that when it comes to mental health – none of us are alone.
I continue to share that message with everyone I meet. I support being honest and open about our feelings. The more we can face the truth we are going through, the easier we can fix it.
